The National Latino Coalition of Christian Ministers and Leaders (CONLAMIC), representing 15,000 Hispanic evangelical churches, has announced its endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, emphasizing the need for change and healing in the United States. In a statement shared by the Biden campaign, the organization acknowledged theological and social differences but stressed the urgent need to address domestic policies and societal divisions. Reverend Miguel A. Rivera, the coalition’s president, highlighted the importance of honest and transparent leadership during the ongoing pandemic, asserting that Biden represents decency and respect, essential for uniting families and communities.
CONLAMIC expressed concern over the divisive rhetoric and offensive language that fosters animosity and societal fractures, without explicitly naming President Donald Trump as responsible. Traditionally, evangelical voters have predominantly supported Republican candidates, with recent Pew Research indicating 78% favor Trump compared to 17% for Biden. However, this Latino coalition diverges due to strong opposition to Trump’s harsh immigration policies, including family separations at the border. Reverend Antonio Bolainez, the coalition’s Midwest vice president, condemned the administration’s anti-immigrant sentiment and urged a return to moral and civic coexistence.
