This chapter examines the impact of evangelical immigration activism from 2009 to 2014, emphasizing how activists blended justice and compassion to address immigration issues through a theological lens. Drawing on biblical teachings about caring for the “stranger,” evangelical leaders reframed the theology of hospitality to align with concerns about the rule of law. Latinx evangelical leaders were instrumental in prioritizing immigration within the evangelical community, collaborating with other leaders who emphasized social justice. Together, they formed the Evangelical Immigration Table in 2012, aiming to influence both attitudes and national immigration policy. The outcomes of this activism were mixed. While surveys indicated growing evangelical support for immigration reform, including pathways to citizenship, this shift in attitudes did not significantly impact voting behavior or policy outcomes. Despite increased awareness and advocacy, the disconnect between support for reform and electoral choices underscored the challenges faced by evangelical immigration activists in achieving broader systemic change.
